THE HIDDEN MYSTERY OF ISRAEL: They Were Never Chosen Instead of You
Have you ever wondered why Yahuah chose Israel? Was it because they were greater, holier, stronger, or more numerous than everyone else? Many have quietly carried this question: “If Israel is His people, where does that leave the rest of us?” But the answer unveils one of the most breathtaking mysteries in all Scripture. Yahuah Himself declared, “Yahuah did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people” (Deuteronomy 7:7). Israel was not chosen because they were the greatest among nations. They were chosen because Yahuah delights in revealing His glory through what men overlook. He repeatedly chooses what appears small to humble the mighty, weak to confound the strong, and forgotten things to reveal eternal truths. David was the youngest son left in the field. Gideon called himself the least. Moses questioned his own ability. Israel was the fewest. The pattern was never accidental. Yahuah was revealing His heart.
And here is the mystery many miss: Israel was not chosen merely to be loved; they were chosen to become a vessel through which Yahuah’s love would be seen. To Abraham, Yahuah spoke words that echoed far beyond one bloodline: “In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:3). Notice carefully: not Israel only, not one tribe only, not one people only—all families of the earth. From the beginning, Yahuah’s heart was reaching farther than many realized. Israel became a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:6). And what does a priest do? A priest stands between, serving others. Suddenly Israel’s calling takes on a deeper meaning: perhaps they were never chosen merely to stand apart from the nations, but to become a light before them.
Then the mystery grows deeper still. Israel itself became a prophetic picture. Just as one nation was chosen to bless many nations, Yahusha came first unto the lost sheep of Israel, yet through Him mercy flowed outward. What looked like separation was preparation. What looked like exclusivity was actually expansion. The pattern of Yahuah remained the same: choose one so many may receive. This is why the Scriptures speak of Gentiles being grafted into the olive tree (Romans 11). Not a second tree. Not a replacement tree. Not another root. Grafted in. Connected to promises that existed long before they arrived.
And perhaps this is the tear-jerking truth hidden beneath it all: before there was Israel, there was Adam. Before covenant nations, there was humanity. Before tribes, borders, and languages, there was one family created in the image of Elohim. Sometimes people read Scripture and ask, “Why did Yahuah choose them?” Yet perhaps heaven has been whispering the answer all along: “Through them… for you.” Because Yahuah never had a small heart. The story was never that He loved Israel instead of the world. The story was that He chose one vessel so the entire world could witness the depth of His mercy, covenant, and love.
